Tips to help manage the cost of living crisis in Sydney

Here are some tips to help manage the cost of living crisis in Sydney:

  • Create a budget: Make a budget to track your expenses and identify areas where you can cut back. Include all your expenses, including housing, food, health, transportation, and entertainment.
  • Reduce non-essential spending: Take a “no spend” day or week to challenge yourself to not spend money on non-essentials.
  • Save first: Set up automatic transfers from your main account to a savings account for irregular expenses.
  • Shop smarter: Shop around for groceries and energy to reduce your bills.
  • Improve your knowledge of personal finance: Read books, articles, blogs, or podcasts about budgeting, saving, and investing.
  • Explore side hustles: Consider bringing in more cash to stretch your income.
  • Smooth out your big bills: Some services, like electricity, council rates, or insurance, offer “bill smoothing”.
  • Compare your energy costs: Shop around for energy to reduce your bill.
  • Be energy savvy: Take steps to be more energy efficient.
  • Share streaming services: Share streaming services with friends.
  • Meal plan: Meal plan and get creative.
