Why Local Journalism matters more than ever

Rajiv Chaudhri - Editor In Chief

Local journalism is something I’ve always believed in. It’s not just about reporting what’s happening, it’s about telling the stories that might otherwise go unnoticed, the ones that bring communities together and make a real difference.

Here’s why I think it’s so important:

▪️It gives a voice to communities. The stories of small towns, villages, and neighbourhoods matter just as much as national headlines. Local journalism ensures these voices are heard.

▪️It holds power to account. Whether it’s local government decisions, business developments, or community concerns, journalists shine a light where it’s needed.

▪️It preserves history and identity. Every place has its own unique stories, traditions, and struggles. Without local reporting, much of this would be lost over time.

▪️It connects people. From covering local events to highlighting personal achievements, local journalism reminds us that we’re part of something bigger.

▪️It supports change. Many of the biggest societal changes start at a local level. Reporting on grassroots movements and local activism can spark wider conversations.

I love being part of this industry and telling stories that matter.
