SPORTS IN THE HILLS

The Hills District of Sydney boasts a vibrant and diverse sporting community, offering residents a plethora of clubs and activities to engage in. From traditional team sports to emerging recreational pursuits, the region caters to enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Here’s an overview of some prominent sporting clubs in the area:

Hills Bulls Sports Club

Established in 1963, the Hills Bulls Sports Club is a community-oriented organization emphasizing family and camaraderie. They offer a range of sports, fostering a supportive environment for athletes.

 

Baulkham Hills Football Club

As a founding member of the Hills Football Association, Baulkham Hills FC has been instrumental in promoting soccer in the region. The association was formed in 2017 to provide organized football competitions for local teams.

The Hills District Tennis Association Inc

Established in 1933, the Hills District Tennis Association (HDTA) has been a cornerstone of the tennis community in Sydney’s Hills District. Operating from two primary locations—Castle Hill Tennis Centre and Dural Tennis Centre—HDTA offers a comprehensive range of tennis activities and services for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

Hills District Little Athletics

Since 1972, this centre has been nurturing young athletes, growing to become the fourth largest out of 200 centers in New South Wales. They focus on track and field events for children, emphasizing participation and personal bests.

Hills District Athletics Club

Catering to athletes of all ages, the Hills District Athletics Club offers training and competition opportunities in track and field events. The club emphasizes personal development and community involvement, hosting events and providing coaching to help members achieve their athletic goals.

Baulkham Hills Hockey Club

Founded in 1968, this family-oriented club fields competitive teams in junior, senior men’s, and senior women’s competitions. They pride themselves on fostering a love for hockey within the community.

Hills United FC

Also known as the Hills Brumbies, this soccer club competes in the National Premier Leagues NSW. Formed in the mid-1990s through a partnership between Castle Hill United and Baulkham Hills Soccer Club, they provide pathways for elite footballers in the Hills District.

Hills Hornets Basketball

Competing in the NBL1 East, the Hills Hornets are a division of the Hills Basketball Association. Established in 1984, they operate out of the Hills Basketball Stadium in Castle Hill, offering programs for various age groups and skill levels.

Cricket in the Hills

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai & Hills District Cricket Association showcases local talent across 10 grades. Recent statistics highlight top performers like Hamish Nicolson from Kenthurst Upper Hills, leading with 441 runs, and Davin Wood from Castle Hill RSL, who has taken 23 wickets.

Hills Triathlon Club Inc

Founded on the principles of friendship, family, and fun, the Hills Triathlon Club embraces the sport of triathlon and multi-sports. Based in Baulkham Hills, the club welcomes members of all ages and skill levels, offering training sessions, events, and a supportive community for those interested in swimming, cycling, and running. 

Castle Hill Bowling Club

Established in 1964, Castle Hill Bowling Club has been a central hub for lawn bowling and social gatherings in the Hills District for over six decades. Located at 79 Castle Street, Castle Hill, NSW 2154, the club offers a welcoming atmosphere for both seasoned bowlers and newcomers.

Emerging Sports: Padel Ball

The Castle Hill Racquet Club has proposed the development of six outdoor padel courts at 264 Old Northern Rd. Padel is a racket sport combining elements of tennis and squash, played on an enclosed court where players can use the walls strategically. The facility aims to promote health and fitness while enhancing community resources in Castle Hill.

These clubs, along with those previously mentioned, contribute to the vibrant sporting landscape of the Hills District, providing residents with numerous opportunities to engage in physical activity, develop skills, and build community connections.

The Hills District’s commitment to sports is evident in its wide array of clubs and the continuous development of new facilities, ensuring that residents have ample opportunities to engage in physical activity and community events.
